Clutch of Inspirations

embracing the presentcherishing the past

It was just another morning. He woke up feeling a bit different from usual for no reason. He wore his shirt the wrong way round and went on with his normal routine. At night, he did live broadcasting with the others at the radio station, hiding at the back restlessly when they took photos after work ended.

On their way home, he listened to music on his earphones with his eyes closed, trying to clear his mind and relax. Suddenly, a loud crash rocked through the still air, cutting off his peace abruptly. Before he could even respond, he lost consciousness in shock.

Only a little while later did he came back to his senses, realizing then that an accident had taken place. He was a distance away from the overturned van, most probably tossed out because of the huge impact. Blankly, he tried to get on his knees and at that instant, his 18 years of life flashed past in his mind. His high school days, his vacation with his parents, his first stage performance…all the significant events in his life. He thought, Ahh…So this is how I’m going to die. But one of his 3 hyungs travelling along who was not badly injured came over. Together they prayed to God for his life in tears...somewhere in between, things blacked out once more because the pain was too much to bear.

Soon after, the ambulance arrived, its screeching sirens adding to the sheer desperation encircling the atmosphere. The paramedics rushed to his eldest hyung first, whose forehead and back were seriously wounded. Blood was oozing so much from his forehead cuts that he couldn’t open his right eye. In the late night, no one noticed the most severely injured person lying far away in a dark corner until the hyung who had been praying with him got them to go to his aid.

*************

In the hospital -- the medical team and doctors summoned the boy’s parents and company staff. He told them solemnly, “This child is going to die soon…if we don’t drill a hole through his throat. Even with a major operation, his chance of living is only around 20%.” The boy was in a critical condition with pneumothorax due to six broken ribs, some piercing into his lungs. His pelvic bone was dislocated as well. To everyone’s utter surprise, his father objected to the operation. The strict father who had most strongly opposed his son’s intention of being a singer, saying it was ridiculous and unheard of for a child from a family with superintendent background to take up a singing profession. He told the doctors, “This child must sing. He’s a singer… He’s a child with dreams of singing. If you drill a hole through his throat, you’re taking away all that he has. How will he go on about and live later on then?”

Everyone thought he was crazy of course, to take the son’s dream more importantly than his life. But he remained unwavered through persuasions, till a more elderly doctor compromised that he shall use another method to save the boy’s life so that he could still sing. Thus, the operations proceeded on in that way.

It was only 4 days later that he finally awoke from his coma and got transferred out of the ICU where he had been depending on the respiratory machine. Upon hearing how his father fought for his dream, he cried uncontrollably. Tears of gratitude they were. The long recovery days in the hospital were not easy either, but at least made better with frequent visits from his hyungs.

Months later, the painful rehabilitation was over at last. Discharged from the hospital, he carried on pursuing his dream which his father had so strongly protected. Five months onwards from the accident, he was able to be on stage again, wowing audience with his powerful vocal, being thankful for all that God has given him in life, and also life itself.

In case anyone gets it wrong, that wasn’t fiction! It’s a true story! The terrible accident happened on 19th April 2007. The “he” is none other than Cho GyuHyun (Kyuhyun) – the youngest member in Super Junior (Yes, the 13 member Kpop boyband that sang ‘Sorry Sorry’, lol). Anyway, Kyu is my favourite artiste! (why does this sentence sounds like a primary school kid essay =.=) *spots a lot of people rolling their eyes T_T* Aww..well, since God created each of us uniquely, we surely all have different personal preferences so feel free to roll your eyes as many times as you want if you are proceeding to read this. :D

I planned to spaz a million things about this guy but coming to this stage, I don’t know where to start with. Perhaps his voice, then…that’s what caught my attention for him in the very first place. Let’s get straight to the point shall we? I find his voice the best voice I’ve ever heard in life, lol! It’s like a magnet to me.. And I love his vibrato-ish bass or baritone. I really WANT to hear him live. Would I have a chance to…T__T Still, thousand thanks to his awesome father and also the life-saver doctor, Dr. Wang Young Pil. If not for you guys, Kyu wouldn’t be able to sing anymore. *That’s such a horrible thought, smashes it to pieces.*

Then there’s his personality, looks etc. He can be all princely and charismatic; he can be a sarcastic snarky brat; he can be a innocent kiddy magnae. He once won the President Prize for the Korea Maths Olympiad. He’s a Starcraft/PCgames-addict with a pro-gamer’s skills and can beat three of his hyungs in a game just by himself. He fails at cooking – well known for his “Han River Ramen” because the ramen was simply tasteless, and there’s also the popular using sesame oil to fry ham incident. He used to be the ‘dancing black hole’ in Suju but he’s improved a lot now…though his dance moves are still kind of dorky and stiff X)

So I’ve been ranting on and on about this guy. Why not show a picture!!

Okay, okay, just hang on there…

Tadaa! Hahah..since it’s too hard to choose just one picture, I decided to go mysterious and just post this back picture of him. XD Want to see how he looks like?? Please visit

Awww... At first I thought it was fanfiction, but unbelievable as it may seem, that was really what happened to Kyuhyun that fateful day. Now we know that miracles do happen. ThanKyu, Lord, for saving our Game Kyu. Amen. :-)

You don't believe this, do you? Kyuhyun is a commercial product to be marketted like any other commercial product and this story would be good marketting for the companies/managers behind him in order to get even more money out of people. Think about it. What real evidence do you have this is true? Sorry, but that's the kind of cynical, money mad world we live in.

Why would I post something I don't believe? It was a true incident, if you could please check it up on the net. And though the company do earn money through him, he's still just a singer who's trying to do what he likes. Same goes for every other singer. So please at least respect him and don't call him a commercial product. Thank you (:

Well, if it's on the net, it must be true, eh? Don't agree that all singers just are singers doing what they like. Most pop music is manufactured by managers and companies, who just pick any good looking person with a reasonable voice from out of obscurity and then promote them like they were a chocolate bar or something. Most boy bands are manufactured that way, from New Kids on the Block to whatever the latest one of of today may be. It's a business. I don't direspect this singer, just saying, don't naively believe everything you're told, especially when it sounds like the plot from a film designed to pull all the right emotional strings in a fanbase.

Yes actually I do agree with everything you said there. And sorry to indirectly say that you disrespect this singer when you don't. But I didn't naively believe all these. My judgement, as far as I'm concerned, convinces me enough that he did went through the dramatic incident. Of course, I can't say 100% for sure everything is true so I won't insist on you believing it. As for me, I'll take self-responsibility for what I choose to believe in. Thanks for sharing your opinion here anyway!
