i have to goo! @ 7:28 PM Lectures are gonna start again real soon. Like an hour later. We've been having a Professional and Career Development workshop the past few days, with companies like Cargill and BP coming over to guide us through the sessions. It was boring at times, fun at times. Naturally the boredom is because of the talks. The games and presentations are the fun side. Okay, maybe the presentation is not all that fun since it made me a bit nervous. That was from Procter and Gamble's session where they gave us lots of their products to choose from and advertise the chosen one. Phil from my group got us the Fairy dishwashing liquid at first, which we simply could not think of what to talk about. So we got IAMS Cat Food instead. Natural wellness, made from Norwegian Salmon. Lol. But the trading game was fun, though it was kind of confusing at first. It's basically about buying and selling oranges/sugar/orange juice. The prices go up and down all the while so we had to predict what happens next and decide how much you wanna buy or sell each round. What makes it intense is we have a timer running every time so you have to complete the trading form and rush out to submit it to the 'market' next to the elevators. XD Anyway, yeah, the whole game was quite new to me but yay, our team won in our stream, both in the practice and actual rounds! ^^ Don't ask me how. We didn't really do very well actually! Rights. Time to rush to my first lecture of the sem! I love last minute blogging, don't I? P.S: Wheeeeeee! Way to go, Lee ChongWei! He beat Lin Dan in the Japan Open Finals! :D

annyeong from rainyland @ 8:44 PM Oil palms whizzing past outside the car window. :P Starting off with the long flights. It goes like Miri-Kuching-KL-Dubai-Manchester. Thank God the first flight was only delayed 15 mins...heart thumping like mad when the delay announcement came on. Why does MAS flights get delayed so frequently! And even damaged my luggage handle. ): Boooo. They should learn from Emirates, who upgraded me to business class! Hurraaay! :D Fancy me not realizing until a staff at the boarding gate told me...I could have enjoyed some privileges at the business class lounge or something! What a pity. Just sat down and the air stewardess was already offering me juice or champagne. The business class seats were upstairs. It was quite empty though. All the Caucasian elderly couples..I guess I was the only youngster lol. Side table with drinks and a mini tv(?). My entire row was empty except for me hahah!
*** Arriving in Manchester, I found out it was not cold at all. Especially when Denise at the hall reception told me I had to go to Wright Robinson Hall to register before I can get my room keys. = = Climbing up the stairs with a 21kg luggage, a violin case and a backpack is NOT easy too. Almost toppled down the stairs together with all my stuff phew. Lesson learnt? Don't reject people's offer to help you carry things. Lol. And don't overestimate your strength. XD Thanks to sis, ck and lz for cooking dinner. I'll make up for it later hahah. Got way too tired that first night...kept falling asleep whilst you guys were chatting. Idle for more than 5 secs and I start nodding away. Naturally I slept like a pig at night... The 2nd night when we decided to settle our own dinners due to fatigue. Went shopping for necessities again.
Looking down. That's the hotel premises, not ours. X) :: 규 :: Study table. New table lamp yay. My new violin! There goes my $$... Thanks mummy for paying for half of the price! Bye bye to my old violin which I traded in. You've been a wonderful companion all these time.

Lend a Hand, Light a Hope @ 11:58 AM Since it has been ages since I last joined a camp, I immediately decided to take part in the Famine 30 Hour Camp when I first came across it on FB. Kind of miss those good old times in church camps back during sec school days~ Okay, so I went with winy who was the only person I managed to pull to the camp successfully lol. I ate rice in the morning for the first time in my life the day we entered the camp, hahah! After the opening ceremony, there was a spotcheck to make sure the participants didn't sneak in any food or prohibited stuff. (like MP3, sniff sniff TT) I didn't know beforehand that all electronic gadgets except camera aren't allowed. And that they don't allow participants to bath, hahah! Maybe World Vision wants us to experience more the lives of the poverty-stricken. Then they gave us an hour's break. Duh. I don't even get why it was necessary. I find it a waste of time. Group dividing was a bit of a mess -- my group ended up with 32 people when we were supposed to have only 22. Time wasted again for them to find out the problems and solve them. Next, the usual stuff. Introduction, think of group name, create your group's motto and perform it blablabla. OH, there was this group named No Idea with the motto, "I've got no idea, no idea but you! x2" *plays Nobody by WG*. But okay, it's creative in a way. This other group...was called Justin Bieber. Motto? *plays the famous Bieber song* Kill me, please. I was SO glad I wasn't in that group. I mean, besides the fact that I'm not a Bieber fan, what has Mr JB got to do with the theme of the camp! Might as well name yourselves Johor Bahru, lol. *ducks from bashes* Concerts and performances were another thing. Maybe it's fine to invite a few singers to perform a song or two. But 5 seems a bit too much for me. First, it's not cheap to invite them and sponsor for air tickets, accommodation etc. Plus, why make it seem like a real concert for the singers, asking us to cheer for them and yell replies as they sing to promote their own albums. *roll eyes* Do something more connected with starvation or pauperism issues please. Same goes for the beauty queens. Why FIVE? Miss Marlene should be enough. The rest didn't serve any purpose there as far as I'm concerned, except for the male-beings gazing at them. Should I ramble on about the belly dancers and fitness centre people? TT I took it as an opportunity to play with my camera but I'm rather disappointed. Oh geez I'm getting the crave for a better camera! O.O Time moved on bit by bit. A big, messy, confusing game. Singing songs. Dancing to 'Waka Waka'. Urgh. Meaningless...Treasure hunt was slightly better, at least we get focused on looking for something. Safety issues get a red light though. Playing with candles at night ;D Yay. My group's candles. I did the left half of the heart hehe. One of the many times we sat on the floor waiting aimlessly with sore bottom. Finally time to sleep, after queueing to brush teeth. Maybe 400 girls takeing turns to use 3 basins? Whatever. Alice and I talked till past midnight I think, till I felt like my throat was getting a bit too dry. 5.15a.m. in the morning after the brush-teeth-queue once more. We had to gather at 6a.m. The night was a little cold cause my feet kept getting out of the blanket. Gosh I hate that. When there's nothing to do during empty slots. I'm getting lazy and tired to mention what we did in the morning. Pretty much tons of exercise, games, motto-shouting etc. Weird how they always forget/ignore our group though, lols. Juwita Suwito. I remember she came before for one of a church concert! Everyone taking pics with the singers. I opted not to squeeze along :P Past the 1 minute mark! Last second. Congrates everyone! Glad to meet you all there -- Alice, Eileen Momo, Alyssa, Michelle and Yung Wei! All the best in your studies yeah! ;D And my group members too...though you peeps made Lee Moi and I felt OLD. TT End of the day, I would say that the camp is not organized well generally, especially on time management and activites. I feel like besides the fact that we starved for 30 hours, the whole concept and point of the camp was not portrayed to the participants. Firstly, in the case of mine (and many others I'm sure), hunger didn't hit in big at all. I drank only plain water, so lest said those who drank other more filling drinks like soymilk or isotonic stuff. I doubt many managed to experience the pang of hunger the children starving in Africa gets. Another thing is that we know we'll get to eat all we want once the 30 hours is up. But those kids out there? No. The future lies unknown to them. They can only eat whatever they get to live on for tomorrow. Of course I'm not blaming the committee for this, since we can't ask people to starve critically for this sake. Lol. Still, the activities planned could be better. Something to ignite people's concern for the millions in need all over the world. Something to bring up the awareness of people regarding the communities living in vulnerable conditions. Do the participants even know after attending the camp what World Vision is and what they're reaching out for? Do they learn to be appreciative and thankful for what they've got today? As Suwito said, the children in the hope home she visited in West Malaysia surprised her by saying that the thing they're most happy about upon moving in there is that they can now focus on their studies. And their wish? That they can have tuition to help them learn better. So city children, please don't be ignorant to how fortunate you are and stop whining and bickering unnecessarily in class! I observe that kids nowadays are maturing much slower than before. Ahh drop it. I'm getting out of topic. The point I'm stating is that the camp committee should put in more effort to embed in the campers' mind how we can lend a hand to help others. That, is after all, the theme of the camp isn't it? Sadly, lots of teenagers seem to be there to stick to their bf/gf like octopuses or simply to fool around with friends. Alright. I must refrain from being too long-winded. O.O I hope people will realize what this whole camp project is about. For more information, feel free to visit http://www.wvi.org/ or www.worldvision.com.my/. It would be wonderful if just 1 out of 100 decides to do volunteering stuff or sponsor a child at RM50/month. Try to change their lives, you'll change yours too :)

go with the flow @ 11:31 AM WARNING: This is a word heavy post with 0% image. It is destined that the rate of blogging plunges worst during holidays. For two very simple reasons. No.1, there are plenty of other interesting stuff to do, be it onlining or away from the laptop. No.2, I haven't thought of anything to blog about, well just one, but it's not the time yet. Thus the dead blog this week. Actually these statements I'm making sound familiar. I wonder if I have posted the same things before, lol. 1000 apologies for that if so...you've gotta consider the aging memory of mine. Do tell me if you happen to know any proven effective way of improving human memory! *desperate* XD It has been a rather peaceful holiday so far. Meeting up with friends and dating with my laptop or violin at home. Lovely life ehh? But I'll probably turn into a fungus if I were to live like that all my life. Lalala.. As you can see, I'm just talking crap here to lengthen my post. Pathetic to the max T.T Maybe I should have watched some World Cup matches so I can comment something about them. From what I know, Europe performed quite badly with only 6 countries qualifying for the 16. Asia has South Korea and Japan making their way in somehow, which is a great achievement already..since Asia is certainly not well-known for football all along. *clap hands* S.Korea shall be playing against Uruguay tonight to fight for a place in the 8 rounds. The later is without doubt a stronger team but anyway, the World Cup this year has been unpredictable and surprising so who knows? Anything in the future lies unknown before it happens and no one can say for sure how things will turn out to be like. Good luck to all the teams.. Speaking of football teams, I can't help but feel sorry for the North Korea players. Coming from a destitute country, their wages are rumoured to be a mere RM5.65 per month(and this just makes Rooney's or Ronaldo's salaries more outrageous!). It is the North Korea's team 1st appearance on Fifa World Cup in 44 years and I guess that explains the streaming tears of Jong Tae-Se during their national anthem. I don't know how much hardship they went through to get into the 32 teams but I'm sure it won't be less than any other teams'. Despite the fact that there probably weren't any North Koreans cheering for them on spot(the strict communist land bans the citizens from leaving their country freely), the players still tried their best with dignity without any fouls. They've got my respect :) Doesn't matter that they failed to qualify for the final 16 because the way they played was still better than deliberate acts or spiteful tactics used by some foolish players. Besides, it's sad to see the adversity they face in South Africa - quote from Brian Phillips at Yahoo! Sports - "because they can't afford better accommodations, they're doing some training in a public gym in Johannesburg... you can see them running routes around guys on the way to the Stairmaster, taking tourist videos of musclemen, and playing keepie-uppie in the aisle between rows of weight machines. In the meantime, the Brazilian players are smoking thousand-dollar bills in a hotel made out of Bentleys." It's always touching to see how the less privileged are more grateful than those with the upper hand. I can't find it online but there were pictures I came across on the newspapers showing the NK players looking at the sea with bright smiles, happily eating the food provided and watching movie at the cinema. Simply epic. Imagine how their daily lives are like for them to be so contented with these stuff. But what is worrisome is the fate that awaits the team when they get home. The heavy loss might be seen as an embarassment to Kim Jong Il and the consequence it leads to is not at all a pleasure to think of. Baah, just thinking about the ruthless dictatorship in the country where human right doesn't exist flares people up. It's a wonder how the residents there live with such absurd civil liberties. Still can't accept the way the ruling party thinks and handles issues, just like how I can't imagine Lady Gaga as a person. The more I ponder about these subjects, the more confused I get. x.x So I guess better stop my ramblings here before I get condemned by the numerous parties I have probably offended above. come on, it's just a mixture of facts and personal opinions. take it or leave it =P And I have to salute whoever actually read this post word by word. Heartfelt gratitude to you, lol!

home sweet home @ 1:01 PM And I'm back. Back to warm Miri, back to my bed, back to my violin, back to the water-yogurt-(new add-on)oatmeal breakfast. It felt unusual..coming back to a place so familiar yet somewhat different cause it has been 9 months since I left. As long as it sounds, 9 months was just as short. Lectures, groceries, holidays, exams...one semester just followed after another and tadaa, it was time to fly home :) I missed out some pics in my previous post so here they are! Taken on board as the plane approached Dubai. Though Dubai is simply burning hot, it is nonetheless a beautiful place where I had love to do some sightseeing. *** Last stories of my 1st year in Manchester..yeah, the last days as well. Having all my duvet, pillows etc sent into storage, I had to sleep on a bare bed for three nights. I thought things should be fine but no, I just couldn't sleep for more than 2, 3 hours before waking up and shiver nonstop. Who knows spring nights are still this cold! I resorted to wearing 4 layers of long sleeves, 2 pair of trousers, leg warmers, 2 pairs socks and even gloves! To no avail. Failed case. I wondered and wondered how come others did not have the same problem..on the last day, I had an answer. As I was bending under my desk to get something, I discovered my heater was not giving out any heat at all!!! =..=" sweat sweat sweat. *** Last eat-out in Manchester! At Nandos near BBC. Super yummylicious spicy chicken and fries :D Nandos sauce rules! Why oh why does my camera fails in low-light scenes.. Okey dokeys. Not much to tell actually. Didn't really do much apart from packing shopping onlining those days. Had to treasure the lovely connection speed there, you see. It's back to takes-half-min-to-load-a-page or buffer-for-ages-on-youtube days. P/S: Is this font size or the previous bigger one better?

bye to sarah! @ 4:36 AM A farewell dinner at TaiWu for Sarah the night before she was supposed to fly back, but thanks to the still erupting Iceland volcano sending ashes all over England airspace, her flight was cancelled! Chinese food rules. Loohzhen is happy. Ying is very very happy :D lol. (your hair looks very brown in this picture sarah! hahah) We took this photo like, the first week we arrived here? Lingering outside the museum I remember :) Anyways, it was nice going to church with you, from the Chaplaincy to St. Mary's. Thanks for all the encouragement you have given me, the adorable giraffe twiggy to keep sulky company with, the books and notes..and everything else! May God's blessings be with you as you take the new path of your choice..remember to pray for His guidance always, in good and bad times alike. Wish you a safe trip home to spend quality time with your family! We can meet up during summer when I get back, heh...take care in the meantime! :) *** |
