home sweet home @ 1:01 PM

And I'm back. Back to warm Miri, back to my bed, back to my violin, back to the water-yogurt-(new add-on)oatmeal breakfast. It felt unusual..coming back to a place so familiar yet somewhat different cause it has been 9 months since I left. As long as it sounds, 9 months was just as short. Lectures, groceries, holidays, exams...one semester just followed after another and tadaa, it was time to fly home :)
I missed out some pics in my previous post so here they are! Taken on board as the plane approached Dubai. Though Dubai is simply burning hot, it is nonetheless a beautiful place where I had love to do some sightseeing.

***

Last stories of my 1st year in Manchester..yeah, the last days as well. Having all my duvet, pillows etc sent into storage, I had to sleep on a bare bed for three nights. I thought things should be fine but no, I just couldn't sleep for more than 2, 3 hours before waking up and shiver nonstop. Who knows spring nights are still this cold! I resorted to wearing 4 layers of long sleeves, 2 pair of trousers, leg warmers, 2 pairs socks and even gloves! To no avail. Failed case.

I wondered and wondered how come others did not have the same problem..on the last day, I had an answer. As I was bending under my desk to get something, I discovered my heater was not giving out any heat at all!!! =..=" sweat sweat sweat.

***

Last eat-out in Manchester! At Nandos near BBC.
Super yummylicious spicy chicken and fries :D Nandos sauce rules!

Why oh why does my camera fails in low-light scenes..

Okey dokeys. Not much to tell actually. Didn't really do much apart from packing shopping onlining those days. Had to treasure the lovely connection speed there, you see.
It's back to takes-half-min-to-load-a-page or buffer-for-ages-on-youtube days.

P/S: Is this font size or the previous bigger one better?

Fatigue overload. @ 6:55 AM

Boom! O-v-e-r, over! Exam's over! After what seemed like ages of intensive revision starting from day 1 of our design project, we went to give ourselves a little treat once we got past the last paper TP.. :P here we go!

Our lunch @ Wasabi in Printworks! The guys went to some "Zizit" Italian restaurant @.@ which sounded and looked expensive. Feast your eyes with our ramyeon!

No one ordered rice, lol. Maybe cause we eat rice all the time.
Anyway, end of exam didn't mean I could sit back and relax. It was packing time and there were loads to do..shake it up shake it up! The vault we shared arrived this afternoon and everything has been loaded and sent off to storage! :)

My common room turned into a storeroom full of luggages and boxes.

A glimpse of part of the stuff waiting for the vault. Scary ehh??

Nani? Promoting phone and masking tape?

And it's one fine spring day today! =) Clear blue sky with occasional golden sunshine and cool breezes.

This is how our super big vault looks like. Huge right?

The inside, after most of our stuff were put in. So much space left I know.

Bye bye chiakhuan and loohZHen! You guys are now on the plane to Dubai already...Gonna miss spending time together cause I'm so used to seeing you people everyday, hahah. I'll try to finish the food you 2 gave. =P We shall meet in Miri or KL sometime during summer!
p/s: lz, ck told me something related to your ipod's wallpaper which makes me very happy, hiahia.

***

Due to the unexpected change in storage plans, my room is now extremely empty as everything has gone into storage.

Poor sulky sitting there like the loneliest thing in the world. my all is in you now...nothing else for me to hold on to at night =)
Since it had been a tiring day today, I decided to be a good person and make it a one-shot-clearing-up. Means cleaning up the really dirty kitchen plus common room after dinner.

Washing and scrubbing the dishes/sink was fun with all the bubbles =P being wasteful with dishwasher liquid seeing there's quite some left.

Tadaa!

Kays I feel like the heaviest elephant is stomping on my eyelids..need to get a good sleep and find food in my dream hahah x.x serious lack of sleep for weeks!

3 and counting. @ 5:44 AM

Suddenly I find myself in the midst of exams already. It is just so true that time slips away ever so quickly once you start the first paper, in my case, maths. Held in the big basketball court on top floor of Sackville Street Building, this time we weren't lucky enough to catch the never-comes/forever-full lifts. No choice but to climb the stairs from floor C to floor K. *do fingers count* EIGHT floors.

That was the 1st paper - over! And the next morning I made a wonderful discovery - my student ID card was missing. Couldn't recall myself putting it back in my bag so I concluded I dropped it in the exam hall. Some luck. So the next day I flew up the stupid stairs again in hope to catch the invigilators for some other courses' paper which just ended. It turned out any ID cards found were sent to the Examination Centre down Oxford Road along with all the answer sheets. Off I went with a glimmer of hope and was directed to the Students Services from there...and hurray! My ID was really there! :) So glad..thought I needed to waste 10 pounds to make a new one. Thank God someone picked it up! okay, thanks to whoever did that too.

Dramatic start to my exams, phew. Now there's 2 papers left. The two scariest intimidating modules - Thermodynamics and Transport Phenomena. *shivers* Sometimes it's the books and lecturers that sink our confidence.

From our thermo professor, "Even if you do all the past year papers, doesn't mean you can pass the paper."

From the first page of our EBL booklet,
"The three laws of Thermodynamics:
You cannot win,
You cannot even break even,
You cannot get out of the game.."

(Lol these aren't the real ones if you are confused.)

From last page of "Elements of Chemical Reaction Engineering",
"This is not the end,
This is not even the beginning of the end,
But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
- Winston Churchill -

Can't blame us to get depressed at times ehh?

But oh wells, there are fun parts too! Lecturers aren't always nerdy and strict..ours can be rather funny (though sometimes lame and resulting in them laughing on their own). Have a look at our mcq sample questions.

You seriously feel like banging the wall doing these questions.

Or maybe just drop dead trying to read/understand these books.

That's why you need lots of food to keep yourself hanging in there. Hmm yeah, those are all bags of crisps, instant noodles, biscuits etc.

Tadaa! My super messy and disorganized tabletop..(high entropy? XD). No laah, few of us studying together so of course everything is everywhere!
Okay. I really shouldn't be here writing silly stuff. Carnot cycle is feeling lonely. toooooooooooodles. next time i blog it's gonna be happy days already, wheee :D

a day out @ 4:46 AM

"Britain enjoying the hottest day of the year", as the news put it. Indeed it was really hot yesterday -> 30 degrees! Totally comparable with Malaysia. And we don't have fan or air-cond indoors, how wonderful. But luckily my room's temperature is still bearable, as long as I leave my window wide open.

***

Some western food! Funny how you love going out for western cuisine in your own country but once you're in the west, chinese food or asian food is like gold to you. Anyway, lz ck ying and I went to Athenaum for the 2.99 pounds lunch one Sunday before the hunt for sis' birthday present X) sorry sis, couldn't have you come along.

Lasagne with garlic bread and salad.

Fried chicken with chips. tipu money lah this.

***

On sis' birthday, we took a break off our studies and popped into city centre to wander about. The streets are getting more packed nowadays..the locals simply love the sunshine. Oops don't sidetrack. We first dropped by Primark where the spring and summer wear are all up on the shelves.

The two models of the day =)

Highlight is the high heels!! 5 inch right, sis? well donee..i would get foot cramp before I stand up in them, then there's the balance problem too. Guess I'm stuck with pumps and sneakers :D

Anyway I got to be the shortest for a while XD photo fail though, only me looking at the camera.

take #2 still fail cause I'm the only one not looking at the camera this time :P giiveee-up!

After sis bought her blouse happily in Primark, we set off to Tesco. Since I had my camera with me, thought that I could just snap some pics to show how our interesting weekly groceries shopping journey is like.

My favourite row! Biscuits, cookies, chocolate bars, cereal bars..whee :D

Is she taking or putting back the Doritos Tangy Cheese? :)

Is it the pineapple season lately? Seeing so much pineapples for sale everywhere =_=

Plums, strawberries, mangoes, blueberries, blackberries..ahh, forgot to take pic of vegetables.

Poultry section.

Close-up. All kinds of choices..minced meat, thighs, loins, ribs..

THen suddenly, you find out that your basket is full! Time to head to counter :P

Our next stop would be Aldi where we grab the weekly offers for the fruits and vege.

Couldn't help taking photo of the flowers. So preetty :)

See! Pineapples again! Hahah. Nah, that's not the point of this picture. This is where we get the cheap deals from..normally potatoes, fine beans, apples, oranges etc.

Preparing for dinner at night :P

Happy birthday to sis! Hope you enjoyed yourself on your birthday ;)

fooood. Can't really recall all the dishes lol. There's my pot of curry! XD
***

And our 1st paper - Engineering Maths is over! 1 down, 4 more to go. Don't know if I wish time could pass slower or faster. Slower cause I need more time for studying, faster cause I'll be going home! :D can't wait.
