Since my sister and I would be leaving for further studies this Sept, my family made a trip to my dad's hometown KK last week to meet up with our paternal cousins.
We were using MAS and I was staring at the boarding passes, wondering why our seats were apart, eg. A, C, D, F. Then my dad told me it's a Foker. Lols. It was my first ride on a Foker which only has four seats per row. But to tell the truth, I enjoyed the flight better than Boeing somehow. It was cooler, though the plane was quite noisy. That was okay with me cause I was reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice from take-off to landing XD
We just reached our hotel in the evening, happy and all when the 'bomb' dropped. Piled down from car and took out all the luggage. Then I went, '' There's a piece missing!!''
Bravo, the handcarry Hilly bag containing books and my shoes was nowhere to be seen or found. My cousin who drove us there was kind enough to offer going back to the airport himself to look for it and went off. Wham. The blame was all on me for the next hour. ''You were the one carrying it all along!'' - I was. But I put it on our trolley at the baggage pick-up hall and my dad pushed the trolley out to the car first. - ''Why did you put it on the trolley?! Is it that heavy? Just carry for a while mah!'' - It really was heavy okay?? T.T Anyways, I switched myself to silent mode after my denial was proved a total failure.
The reception/concierge desk.
Lobby.
Sitting area meant for a bar blocked by the pillar.
My mum was not amused that I was still taking photos here and there when the bag was lost. But it's spilt milk, what can I do at that instant except for praying for good news from my cousin? Well I did some reflecting but don't really find it my fault XD The bag was still there when I got into the car first! ----Dinner was at my uncle's house that night, not very far from 1 Borneo where we stayed.
Apparently my niece possess story-telling, singing and poetry writing talents. Way to go, Amanda! And I see that you have nice handwriting like me! yay, same traits.
Glorious food = my happy time.
The next morning, we did a weeny bit of shopping at the shopping mall. 1 Borneo appear smaller to me suddenly, perhaps because I just went to KL where you get sick of humongous shopping malls.
Coincidently, it was my aunt's sister's birthday so we celebrated simply at my aunt's house that afternoon. Very homey mango cake. Even the mangoes were from their own backyard.
My sister and I while waiting for car to pick us up for dinner.
The restaurant should be quite good and renowned as many famous celebrities had been there before. The photos say it all. The one I recognize most easily is Aaron Kwok. A lot of other Hong Kong and local stars whom you can't expect me to know. The most is, ''I think I saw this person somewhere on TV before.'' XD
My younger niece Claudia who's irrestibly adorable.
Dishes #1 - Bilin with belacan was superb.
Dishes #2 - delectable butter prawns I wish I can have anytime I want! And the crabs were so succulent, gosh I'm gonna go hungry now.
Part of my KK cousins and us.
Night view of 1 Borneo. I wish I have a camera. )=
Spent the night watching TV. Yeah that's Disney Channel =P But maxcinema and AXN are still nicer!! No HBO there, sadly.
We settled for breakfast next morning at Old Town.
Doing homework? Filling in order forms lah.
Variety of food available there.
My mum's white coffee the shop is best known for.
My dry curry mee. Not bad, but of course, too heavy a breakfast for me.
There was this big wheel of fortune feature at 1 Borneo. Spend RM100 in a single receipt and you'll get a chance to spin it. Winter-clothes shopping landed us for 3
spinning opportunities. I ended up with a Manhattan Fish Market RM5 voucher and smacked my head. My sister did better with a RM20 and RM10 shopping voucher but we gave them all to our cousins in the end 'cause we didn't have time to use them =.=
1 Borneo is very MidValley-like with Centre, South and North Atriums.
Forever Friends bears! I will be jumping for joy if I get one!
Trying on clothes for fun. Didn't buy any of these =D
KK is gonna transform into another KL? The number of shopping malls here is shooting up in the recent years. And this Suria Sabah will be having Metrojaya as its anchor tenant. Just like Suria KLCC but they are of different management.
Construction is under its way.
Padini's at Warisan Square. Always wound up in there.
Section of Warisan Square. Yes, those are Big Apple donuts on the right.
Moved on to Centre Point, this is the Sungei Wang of KK. But there's a Palm Square on the top floor where you can find more decent outlets. My dad found Living Quarters, a winter apparels shop, hiding in a corner there.
First spotted this striped cardigan when I entered the shop. I tried it on and took a liking to it but it's RM99. Bleeeeeeh.
Love this too!
And this! All the same, I bought a winter coat already so no more will I buy here in Malaysia. The rest can wait till I reach UK.
Butter chicken rice for dinner at Karamunsing Complex where we went to look at the laptops and PCs. This is KK's Low Yat but needless to say, it's a far cry from the genuine Low Yat in KL.
We spent the last night at my cousin's quite new house. It's a big and tastefully-decorated 3-storey semi-d with a huge kitchen and a huge garden. The huge kitchen is for my cousin's wife's baking purpose. She's professional at baking cakes, 1000+ orders for the Mothers' Day season, wth. We had the lovely opportunity to sink our teeth into her heavenly cheesecake and also pandan cheesecake which was sinfully good as well.
This was where I onlined at night using my cousin's laptop.
Surprise. Yoghurt for breakfast again.
With bread and milk.
Then we went out for breakfast at a coffee shop selling Danum noodles. Danum is a sort of district in KK. And every district has their own type of noodles. It turned out my mum love this Danum noodles, maybe because it's made by Hakka people, haha. I, on the other hand, ate wa- dan-ho. Quite nice, with my dear Sabah spring roll in it.
It was time to leave for the airport after that. Air Asia for trip home. As my dad and I were at the handcarry bags scan part, there was this Chinese man in front. The security officers were telling him to take out his laptop from his bag because the thing was beeping. He looked dazed and dazzled. Then he started to take off his shoes and put them on the conveyor belt, empty his pockets, laying out keys, some junk stuff..and money notes. That was when we realized his problem. The notes were China RMB. Obviously he's from mainland China and doesn't understand a single bit of English. So we told him in Chinese what they wanted him to do. And he said sheepishly, ''Ohh..I didn't know what they were talking about.'' sweat. How did he survive in KK for the days he was there??
Flight was delayed an hour. I killed time trying to sleep to mend a probing headache. But to no avail cause the departure hall was totally a fish market.
Mango mousse cake made by my cousin's wife. Thank you so much! It's delicious. She actually made a whole cake for us to bring back. My gratitude and felicity are beyond what words can express!! Hahaa..XD
P/S: Remember the lost luggage? It was FOUND. What happened was when my dad and cousin were busy loading the rest into the car boot, some taxi driver accidentally took it and put it in his taxi. How funny things can be.
