the power of energy balances @ 6:45 PM

The design project turned out to be an ammonium nitrate plant! Basically the work load is spread out over 9 days, with a different section a day and a quiz on the last day. After a briefing by Dr. Curtis - the calm and composed American lecturer, we embarked on today's journey: mass and energy balance.


Naturally, we Malaysians chinese plus jerrold all teamed up except careena who joined jasmin gabby etc :( Mass and energy balance for the reactor and evaporator didn't sound too bad at first but when we get our hands and mind on it, things were rather different and much harder than it seemed to be. Energy balances, particularly..which painted frowns and wrinkles on our faces.


At the end of the day, we spent 6 hours to barely complete what we were supposed to do. I guess we wasted too much time expressing and explaining our own opinions and method everytime we gather varying views. And once a dispute is somehow settled by hook or by crook, a new one emerges. Next time we better talk less...and bring sandwiches or bentos to our work room so no precious time wasted for lunch!
Just the first day and brains are suffering. Would things get better? :S
